| The
"Top 5's" |
| Hello
again, this section here is reserved for you, the
Audiophille who wants everyone to know what you
use as the best cassette of all time. Here below,
is a bunch of top 5 lists according to the
opinions of people who have tried many cassettes
over the years, and have narrowed it down to
their 5 best. Of course this list varies from
person to person, but people have different
tastes. |
| The BTG Top 5! |
This
is the Top 5 list according to the site itself,
the BTG has tried many cassettes, but not every
cassette. So this list could change, but
basically, this is the main list of the best I
have ever tried. 1: Maxell XLII-S
2: Denon HD7
3: TDK MA
4: TDK AD
5: Fuji DRII
I
know, most of you are looking at this list and
are saying, "What? He's crazy!" It may
look like I have forgotten some really important
ones, but I concider these cassettes
"treasures" because it's not just
quality I'm looking at, but recording ability
and, also importantly, price.
If
you wanted to see some more of my list, I know
someone is curious, click the link below for more
of the best in the ALL-STAR list!

List
Anyway,
it's your turn, what does the rest of the general
public think is the top 5 of all-time. If you
want to contact any of the people below, just

Anthony
Wicker
I found this person on eBay, and
from what I gather, he collects cassettes more
than uses them, but he does on occasion use them.
He is also looking for a lot of rare cassettes
and still uses eBay to find them. |
1: TDK MA-XG
90's version
2: Sony
Super Metal Master
3: TDK SA-X
limited
4: TDK AR-X
5: Sony
UX-ES or Pro (both are the same tape) |
KJ Bleus
From Madison, Wisconsin. This person
has been collecting cassettes for nearly 30 years
(sheesh, longer than I've been around). His tape
list even spans Japanese models. He also is a fan
of Nakamichi cassette decks, and has a website in
relation to the manuals of certain Nak decks.
(LINK TO COME ON LINKS PAGE SOON) |
1: Maxell
XLII-S (mid 80's)
2: Maxell
MX-S (late 80's)

4: Nakamichi

Mark
Barrett
From Brazil, Indiana. Another person
who is a fan of Nakamichi cassette decks. His Top
5 came with some explainations. Let me tell you,
he has good reasons to pick these for his Top 5
of all-time. He even has a 6th of all-time. I
listed it under #5. In the explainations, I
included the most important details why those
tapes mean so much in the Top 5. |
1: TDK MA {The best
tape of all time.}
2: Maxell
MX-S {Just as good as the TDK MA. The
shell may even be better.}
3: Fuji FR
Metal {The #4 rated metal tape of all
time (Consumer Reports early 90's). A very
neutral sounding metal tape.}
4: TDK SM
(studio version of SA) {It may
have a better binder (than SA), doing a better
job of holding the magnetic coating on the tape
base.}
5: Maxell
XLII-S/XLII {For depth and detail; its hard to
believe this is not a metal tape.} |
Dinesh
Samuel
He has been collecting blank tapes
for a few years, and collects all of the major
brands: Maxell, TDK, Sony, Memorex, That's,
Triad, Fuji, 3M/Scotch, BASF, Realistic Supertape
and some other makes too. All of the tapes in his
collection date from the late 70's to the 1990's,
possibly even some from the late 90's. He is also
willing to trade, if anyone is interested. E-mail
hime and he'll let you know. his Top 5 is pretty
cool. Check it out. |
1: Maxell MX
2: TDK SA
(1982-1995) {New SA's are cheaply made.}
3: Triad
EM-X {A very durable tape. ...great for
tapes you play alot}
4: Maxell
XLI-S {Great for CD's and Boomboxes.}
5: BASF
Chrome Super II |
Stephen
Darden
His list is pretty cut and dry. All
of the best Metal tapes, and the highest brand of
High Bias cassettes. The Denon MG-X and Maxell
MX-S's are his true collection. If you have any
you are willing toget rid of, let him know, he's
willing to take them off your hands. He is a bit
saddened by companies discontinuing cassettes,
and he still uses them to this day: "My
intent is to write my own Jazz music and record
them onto open reel and then master some of the
muti track to cassette." |
1: Denon
MG-X
2: Maxell
MX-S
3: TDK MA-X
4: Maxell
XLII-S
5: TDK SA-X |
Matt
Desatoff
A true Maxell buff. This is a man
who knows all when it comes to Maxell, and I
happen to like his list. It contains the
important Maxell cassettes that were significant
to a true audiophille. Note that he ranks the
XLI-S well over the XLII-S. He also has an
extensive collection of Maxell reel-to-reel tapes
as well. Heck, even his email address is a
tribute to Maxell, click it and see." |
1: Maxell MX
(88-91)/MX-S (90-91)
2: Maxell
XLI-S (88-91)
3: Maxell MX
(85-86)
4: Denon
MG-X
5: Maxell
XLII (88-91) |
Angel
Ricano
Angel has been collecting
"super" tapes for 3 years. From Angel:
"I am not an Allien with tapes as I remember
buying MA-Rs in the pasted and I'm into hifi. I
currently own a Nakamichi CR-7A and a ZX-9 both
overhaul by ESL and are better than new."
This certainly is a man who knows good qualioty
when he sees it. |

3: TDK MA-XG
